💰 $990M Wind + Battery Project Moves Forward
Spanish renewable giant Acciona has officially entered planning with its proposed Tall Tree Wind Farm in central Victoria — a 330MW wind and 200MW/800MWh battery hybrid.

📉 Plan Scaled Back:
Originally 68 turbines, now trimmed to 53 turbines
2,400+ hectares cut from the site
Key goal: Minimize impact on high-value habitat, towns & airspace
📍 Project Location:
Between Meredith, Lethbridge, and Teesdale, inside the Central Highlands Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) — near massive projects like Golden Plains (756MW) & Mercer Wind Farm (131MW).
📆 Timeline:
Construction: 2027
Operations: 2029
⚡ Connection Plan:
A new 220kV transmission line will link the farm to the Moorabool-Elaine network — and possibly into VicGrid’s proposed 500kV Tarrone-to-Sydenham super-line.
🗣️ Local Pushback Grows:
Community consultations highlight ongoing concerns:
Turbine proximity to homes (all towns within 2–7km)
Property value impact
Visual, noise, and fire risks
Lethbridge Airport sits just 5km east
82 threatened plant species and 56 animals recorded nearby, including the endangered swift parrot
🔄 Acciona has committed to:
Full decommissioning at wind farm owner’s cost
Ongoing ecological protection and monitoring
🌾 While mostly farmland, the site surrounds Boonderoo Nature Conservation Reserve, a critical biodiversity area.
