Design and Development Agreement Signed
APA Group has entered into a design and development agreement for twin gas pipelines at CS Energy’s proposed Brigalow Peaking Power Plant. This partnership marks a significant step towards the realization of the new hydrogen-ready gas-fired power station, planned to be located at CS Energy’s Kogan Clean Energy Hub near Chinchilla.
Conditional Agreement and Approvals
The agreement is conditional upon several factors, including internal approvals from both CS Energy and APA, any necessary external and government approvals, and the finalization of key development matters between the two companies. These matters include the negotiation and entry into a full project development agreement, as well as a gas transportation and storage agreement.
Hydrogen-Ready Pipelines
The twin pipelines will connect APA’s Roma Brisbane Pipeline to the Brigalow Peaking Power Plant. Designed with the future in mind, these pipelines will be hydrogen-capable, allowing for potential conversion to hydrogen service as the energy landscape evolves. This forward-looking approach aligns with Australia’s broader transition to renewable energy.
Timeline and Investment
APA will be responsible for developing and owning the 23km-long gas and storage pipelines, which are targeted for completion by mid to late 2026. The project’s estimated construction cost is at least $140 million, though final capital expenditure will be determined by detailed engineering design expected to be completed by early 2025.
Strategic Growth and Energy Transition
APA CEO and Managing Director, Adam Watson, emphasized the importance of this agreement in advancing Australia’s energy infrastructure. “This agreement demonstrates the significant growth opportunities ahead for APA as we continue to leverage our existing gas transmission network and capabilities to progress vital new infrastructure that supports energy reliability and Australia’s transition to renewables.”
