Federal Investment Sparks Solar Growth

Australia's solar industry is getting a major uplift as 5B, a local pioneer in solar tech, secures the first funding under the government’s $1 billion Solar Sunshot Program. The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has announced up to $46 million in support to help the company ramp up manufacturing of its game-changing Maverick solar deployment system.

Speeding Up Solar with Smarter Tech

The Maverick system is designed to streamline the installation of large-scale solar farms using prefabricated, prewired solar panels. This innovative approach drastically cuts down time, labor, and costs typically involved in traditional solar projects—making clean energy faster and more accessible.

Local Manufacturing Gets a Boost

The funding will allow 5B to expand its Adelaide-based production facility to manufacture at least 200MW of Maverick units over the next three years. This move supports local jobs and strengthens Australia’s position in the global renewable energy supply chain.

Vision for a Greener Future

ARENA CEO Darren Miller said this project showcases the best of Australian innovation. “We’re proud to support 5B’s mission to make solar more affordable and efficient. This is exactly the kind of local manufacturing momentum we need to hit our 2050 goal of 1TW of installed solar PV,” he said.

Lower Costs, More Opportunities

According to 5B CEO David Griffin, the funding will cut production costs by 25% and unlock new opportunities across the business—from factory work to large-scale solar design. “This allows us to better serve customers looking for cost-effective, safe, and scalable solar solutions,” he said.
