Investing in Tomorrow's Engineers

In a bold move to empower the next generation of energy leaders, Transgrid has awarded 21 engineering scholarships to students across New South Wales—part of its long-term vision to future-proof the energy sector.

Support That Goes Beyond the Classroom

Now in its third year, the Transgrid Engineering Scholarship Fund has backed 100 students at Charles Sturt University with $20,000 each to support their studies—helping ease the financial load so these young minds can focus on building careers in energy.

Local Talent for Local Impact

These scholarship recipients hail from regional communities including the Riverina, Central West, Mid North Coast, Central Tablelands, and New England—all areas where crucial renewable energy projects are either underway or in the pipeline.

Building the Workforce Behind the Transition

According to Daniel Banovic, General Manager of Major Projects at Transgrid, these students are the future of the state’s energy transition. “We’re not just funding studies—we’re building a workforce ready to tackle the renewable revolution,” he said.

Infrastructure Projects Need Skilled Hands

From EnergyConnect to HumeLink and VNI West, Transgrid is creating a 2500km energy superhighway. That level of infrastructure needs skilled engineers, and these scholarships are a direct investment in that workforce.

Growing the Program, Growing the Future

With this year’s 21 recipients, the program has now awarded 58 scholarships and aims to support a total of 100 students under the $2 million scheme. Banovic said, “This is about equipping communities with the tools to drive clean energy forward.”

University Partners Praise the Initiative

Charles Sturt University’s Justin Williams praised the partnership, saying, “It’s not just about easing costs—it’s a message to students that the energy sector believes in their potential and wants them in the industry.”

Regional Dreams Realised

One of this year’s recipients, Ross Aloniu from Griffith, said the scholarship has made it possible for him to attend university—an opportunity he never imagined. “This gave me a chance to dream bigger,” he said.

Scholarships That Change Lives

Phoebe Donnelly from Armidale echoed that sentiment. “It’s more than financial help. It gives me the freedom to engage fully in my studies and build lifelong connections,” she shared.
