Powering Tomorrow: Australia’s Depot Electrification Push

Australia’s transition to electric vehicle fleets is picking up pace, with high-impact depot electrification projects redefining industry norms. At the forefront is the ambitious $42 million “Depot of the Future” initiative, a partnership between Team Global Express (TGE) and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), based in Bungarribee, NSW.

Driven by MTA Energy under the leadership of Managing Director Gareth Mann, the project is a pioneering model. It saw 60 electric trucks integrated into TGE’s 240-truck fleet, supported by significant infrastructure enhancements. Among these upgrades was a 500kW/1MWh battery energy storage system and advanced EV charging infrastructure from JetCharge, designed and commissioned by MTA Energy.

Gareth Mann, known for his deep understanding of depot electrification, grid integration, and EV energy dynamics, played a critical role in realising this complex project. His expertise ensured seamless energy management and a scalable model for the future of transport logistics.

Mann will share his insights at the 2nd Annual EV Infrastructure Summit in Sydney (17–18 June 2025) on the panel “Scaling Smart EV Charging: Building Future-Ready Infrastructure for Fleets.” The panel, moderated by Collin Jennings of MTA NSW, will also feature thought leaders such as Andrea Persico (Amped Consulting), Justin Harding (Club Assist & Renew Board), and Graham McCabe (STEP Advisory).

With over 350 senior industry stakeholders expected, the summit will cover the latest in fleet electrification, sustainable infrastructure, V2G strategies, and smart charging. It’s a critical touchpoint for those shaping the next phase of Australia’s clean transport evolution.
