Swedish renewable energy company OX2 is charging ahead in Australia, with one solar-plus-battery project approved and another one entering the federal approval process.

✅ Green Light for NSW Solar + Battery Project
OX2 has received final environmental approval from the federal government for its Summerville Solar Farm in northern New South Wales.
📍 Location: Richmond Valley, ~60km southwest of Lismore
🔋 Project: 90 MW solar farm + 360 MWh battery (4-hour storage)
🛠️ Construction Start: Mid-2026
🚀 Operations Begin: Late 2028
👷 Jobs: Up to 200 during construction, 6 ongoing roles
The project had already cleared state-level approvals in May, which came with strict fire safety and environmental management conditions.
OX2 has also pledged $3.1 million to Richmond Valley Council to support local infrastructure and community projects.
🆕 New Queensland Project in the Pipeline
Meanwhile, OX2 has submitted plans for its next big venture—the Sunshine State Solar Farm near Townsville, Queensland.
📍 Location: North of Rollingstone and Balgal Beach
🔋 Specs: 128 MW solar (AC) + 128 MW battery (2-hour duration)
🔌 Connection: To the 132kV transmission line via a short 100m overhead link
The land is privately owned, and stakeholder engagement has already begun, including contact with Townsville City Council and nearby communities.
OX2 is now working on a Community and Stakeholder Engagement Plan to strengthen ties with locals and explore a formal Community Benefit Agreement, aligning with new legislative expectations.
🌏 From Europe to Australia, OX2 Is Making Moves
Both projects were originally developed by Esco Pacific, before being acquired by OX2. Now, the Swedish developer is pushing forward with strong environmental compliance and community backing.
These solar and battery hybrids reflect a growing shift in Australia’s energy strategy—blending clean generation with reliable storage to reduce emissions and power local communities.
