💰 $35.2 Million Energy Upgrade for ACT Homes

The Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative (SHEPI) is already making a difference in 3,000 public and community homes in the ACT, with a total target of 5,000. The upgrades include:

• 🌀 Over 700 reverse cycle air conditioners

• ♨️ 1,000 hot water heat pumps

• 🧤 250,000 sqm of ceiling insulation

These improvements are helping reduce energy use, improve comfort, and lower annual power bills by an average of $1,800 per household.

🔄 From Gas to Efficient Electric

The ACT program, under the Home Energy Support Public and Community Housing Upgrades, is replacing outdated gas appliances with efficient electric alternatives, supporting the shift to all-electric, low-emission homes.

This initiative is part of the federal government’s broader $800 million SHEPI investment, aiming to upgrade up to 100,000 social housing properties nationwide by 2029.

🌞 Solar & Batteries Coming Next

Next in line for ACT’s SHEPI rollout is a $12.9 million solar and battery program. Thousands of social housing rooftops will soon be fitted with solar systems and battery storage, which will be connected into a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).

This move will help:

• Strengthen grid reliability

• Advance ACT’s clean energy transition
