New Ownership & Fresh Direction
The Hills of Gold Wind Farm in NSW has been acquired by Someva Renewables, a 100% Australian-owned developer.
Project size: 372 MW wind capacity + 100 MW battery.
Originally developed by Engie, now fully transferred to Someva.
Someva has been involved since 2017, assisting with approvals, landowner deals, and community engagement.

Legal Hurdles Ahead
The project faces a Land and Environment Court appeal, led by Tamworth Regional Council.
Challenge follows approval by the NSW Independent Planning Commission (IPC) in 2023.
Objections include:
Road access and land impacts.
Social licence issues.
Unresolved landowner agreements.
Someva says the council’s appeal is a “questionable use of ratepayer money.”
Community Divide
The project has sparked the “Not in Nundle” opposition campaign.
Despite this, there are hundreds of supportive local submissions, particularly from businesses recognising economic benefits.
Since 2022, nearly $100,000 in sponsorships has been directed to local groups.
Why It Matters
The wind farm is positioned in a high-quality wind zone.
Key for NSW’s clean energy transition and local economic growth.
Someva plans to keep engaging with hosts, neighbours, and stakeholders to build trust.
Engie Steps Back
Engie said the sale allows it to:
Focus on other projects in its 3 GW pipeline by 2030.
Highlight its role in pushing Hills of Gold through years of planning and approvals.
