Wind Farm Proposal Halted After Review
The Moonlight Range Wind Farm, once a green light project, will no longer move ahead in its original form. The Queensland Government made the announcement following strong community feedback and a detailed assessment by the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning.

Public Sentiment Drives Reassessment
While the project initially gained approval in December 2024, things changed after over 550 community submissions were received during the January 2025 consultation phase. Remarkably, 85% of the feedback supported a review of the wind farm plans.
What the Project Entailed
The proposal included up to 88 towering wind turbines, a large battery storage facility, and associated infrastructure across 1,269 hectares. It was seen as a major renewable energy initiative, but concerns over local infrastructure, housing, and service pressures took center stage.
New Planning Laws Make an Impact
Queensland’s updated planning laws now require renewable energy projects to undergo the same rigorous approval process as traditional resource developments. Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie confirmed the Moonlight Range Wind Farm did not meet these new requirements.
Community Input Respected
Queensland Member for Mirani, Glen Kelly, stressed that residents’ concerns were central to the government’s decision. The shift underscores a new era of transparency and public engagement in energy project approvals.
