New South Wales (NSW) is taking a big leap towards a cleaner energy future! The state is opening applications for access to its first two Renewable Energy Zones (REZs), paving the way for a surge of new solar, wind, and battery storage projects.
What's Happening?
Applications Open: Companies can now apply for access rights to connect their renewable energy projects to the grid within the Central-West Orana REZ, the state's largest. A similar tender will open soon for the South West REZ.
Fast-Track Approach: This initiative aims to streamline the process and boost investor confidence. It also gives local communities more say in the development of projects in their regions.
Benefits for Everyone: The goal is to reduce energy bills for consumers, create new jobs in regional areas, and provide these communities with a share of the access fees paid by project developers.
