Powering Homes with Clean Energy
In a bold step towards a greener future, the Federal and Western Australian governments are teaming up to make home battery systems more accessible than ever before. Their goal? To help more WA households store the solar power they generate—and put it to work around the clock.

Rebates to Reach 100,000+ Homes
The newly expanded program combines the WA Government’s $337 million Residential Battery Scheme with the Federal Government’s $2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries initiative. Together, these programs are set to benefit more than 100,000 households, nearly five times the original target.
Financial Support That Makes a Difference
Eligible Synergy customers can receive up to $5,000 towards a home battery, while Horizon Power customers may qualify for up to $7,500. On top of that, around 80% of WA households could access interest-free loans of up to $10,000, making battery storage more affordable and less of an upfront burden.
Loans That Help More Families Switch
The government has allocated $200 million in no-interest loans, especially aimed at households earning under $210,000 per year. This makes it easier for middle-income families to invest in battery tech and play a role in WA’s clean energy transformation.
Batteries That Pay You Back
These systems aren’t just for storing power—they can also earn households money. Batteries installed under the program can be linked to Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), allowing homes to sell excess energy back to the grid. Not only does this help stabilize the energy network, it also means extra cash for families through higher-than-average feed-in tariffs.
Applications Open Soon
Eager to take part? Applications for rebates and no-interest loans are set to open on 1 July 2025. With demand expected to be high, households are encouraged to act quickly once the portal opens.
Leaders Applaud the Joint Effort
Federal Climate and Energy Minister Chris Bowen praised WA’s leadership in solar energy, saying this partnership will help more residents tap into the state’s endless sunshine—even at night.
Premier Roger Cook echoed that sentiment, saying the expanded rebate program could also stimulate local battery manufacturing and help families earn rewards while supporting the state’s energy goals.
More Savings, Less Carbon
WA’s Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson highlighted the long-term financial benefits for households. “Installing solar with battery storage can save families up to $1,500 a year,” she said, adding that the scheme also brings vital support to the state’s energy grid.
