Supernode Battery Expansion Sealed
Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners has signed a Stage 3 offtake agreement with Stanwell Corporation, expanding the Supernode battery’s capacity from 500MW to a massive 750MW/2540GWh, making it one of Australia’s largest battery energy storage systems. The deal hinges on Quinbrook reaching financial close by 30 September 2025.

A Strategic Energy Milestone
According to Quinbrook’s Co-founder David Scaysbrook, this new agreement finalises the Supernode’s three-stage rollout at the South Pine site, now fully contracted with both Stanwell and Origin Energy as offtake partners. With Stages 1 and 2 already under construction, Stage 3 will now accelerate into planning, bringing total investment in the project to over $1.4 billion.
Powering Queensland’s Future
Scaysbrook emphasized the strategic value of the South Pine location within Queensland’s power grid, noting that both Origin and Stanwell’s long-term commitments highlight the site's critical importance for clean energy storage.
Local Impact and Industry Confidence
Quinbrook’s Brian Restall expressed pride in contracting all three stages ahead of schedule, calling the Supernode site “Queensland’s best location for a big battery.” The project promises major economic benefits for the Moreton Bay region, with job creation and support for local businesses.
Stanwell Steps In for Energy Resilience
Stanwell CEO Michael O’Rourke said the partnership with Quinbrook will help deliver firmed renewable energy to Queensland’s commercial and industrial customers. The battery will store solar energy generated during the day and release it in the evening when demand spikes, strengthening both local reliability and the broader National Electricity Market.
Next Steps and Future Collaboration
Quinbrook also revealed plans to work with Stanwell on potentially involving SAMCo, Stanwell’s Asset Maintenance Company, to handle operations and maintenance services for the expanding Supernode project.
