Local Energy Revolution Begins

Endeavour Energy has flicked the switch on two new community batteries in Campbelltown, NSW, giving local households a new way to cut down on energy costs while supporting the clean energy movement.

Batteries That Bring Communities Together

In a joint effort with the Federal Government, the utility partnered with the Mayor of Campbelltown City Council, Councillor Darcy Lound, to officially launch the two new batteries. These additions are part of a broader rollout aimed at increasing access to renewable energy for more Australians.

Batteries for Everyone – No Solar Needed

The installations include a large, visually striking battery in Blair Athol, decorated with Indigenous artwork, and a compact unit installed on a pole in Macquarie Fields. Combined, they allow 140 households—regardless of whether they own their home or have solar panels—to benefit from shared energy storage.

Savings and Sustainability Hand-in-Hand

Endeavour Energy’s General Manager of Future Grid and Asset Management, Colin Crisafulli, said the program allows residents to better use and store solar power, lower their energy bills, and reduce their emissions. He also highlighted the cultural value of the Blair Athol unit, adorned with artwork by Ngemba elder Aunty Jenny Shillingsworth.

Campbelltown Council Welcomes the Move

Mayor Darcy Lound celebrated the launch, calling the batteries a practical step toward a more sustainable future for Campbelltown. He praised the initiative as part of the city’s broader commitment to environmental action.

More Batteries on the Way

These two batteries are part of a rollout that includes installations in Bargo, Cambewarra, East Bowral, Hammondville, and St Georges Basin. Other sites, including Kiama, Shell Cove, and Bungarribee, are already operational.

Bigger Plans for the Region

An additional 76 batteries are planned for 33 suburbs across Greater Western Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands, and the Illawarra. This ambitious rollout will help transform local energy systems across a large swath of NSW.

Tech and Trial by Origin Energy

Origin Energy is providing the customer platform and managing battery operations, including dispatching energy to the wholesale market. The company will work closely with Endeavour Energy to make sure the batteries contribute to energy efficiency and grid support.

Making Solar Savings Accessible to All

James MaGill, Origin’s Executive General Manager of Origin Zero, highlighted the trial’s inclusive nature. He emphasized that even homes without solar panels can benefit from shared battery storage—without needing to invest in their own battery.
