The Western Australian Government has unveiled its 2025–26 Budget, and it’s nothing short of a game-changer for clean energy. With billions earmarked to fast-track renewables, local battery manufacturing, and workforce training, the state is taking major strides toward becoming a clean energy powerhouse.

Clean Energy Link Gets Major Funding
At the heart of the Budget is a $584 million investment into stage two of Western Power’s Clean Energy Link – North project. This funding will help unlock wind energy resources north of Perth and support the retirement of coal-fired power stations by 2030. The Regans Ford terminal is also part of this push, enabling greater renewable energy generation and grid support.
Infrastructure for the Future
More than $2.7 billion has been allocated to unlock and expand strategic industries. A fresh $500 million injection into the Strategic Industries Fund—raising its total to $1 billion—will enhance infrastructure across major hubs like Kwinana, the Pilbara, and Kemerton.
Western Power is set to become a foundational customer of the new Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Hub (AMTECH) in Picton, with $10 million allocated to support its planning. Meanwhile, Forrestfield will house a new advanced manufacturing facility to produce transmission lines critical to the energy transition.
Local Manufacturing and Job Growth
In a significant boost to local industry, $50 million will go toward supporting WA-based battery manufacturers. An additional $83 million will back electric bus and ferry production, while $30 million is reserved for the Investment Attraction Fund, supporting projects in critical minerals, hydrogen, and carbon capture.
Community and Regional Energy Projects
The Budget also includes dedicated funding for community energy infrastructure:
$30M for the Collie Industrial Transition Fund
$13.5M for a 50% renewable power generation station
$5.3M for Blackstone Power Station and Solar Farm
$4.5M for Murdoch Drive substation upgrades
$3.5M to advance wind infrastructure at Geraldton Port
$1.6M toward the Pilbara Energy Transition Plan
Boosting Residential Battery Access
A highlight of the Budget is the $337 million WA Residential Battery Scheme. By providing no-interest loans, the scheme will help tens of thousands of households store their solar energy, cut bills, and boost grid resilience.
Households may receive up to $5000 (Synergy customers) or $7500 (Horizon Power customers), with estimated annual savings of up to $1500 through solar and battery usage. This scheme will be supercharged by the Federal Government’s $2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program, targeting over 100,000 households.
Backing Local Battery Manufacturing
The Local Battery Manufacturing Program offers up to $10 million in matched grants and $20 million in low-interest loans or access to state land for new manufacturing facilities. WA Premier Roger Cook emphasized that local battery production is key to long-term cost-of-living relief and job creation, all under the state’s "Made in WA" plan.
Training Tomorrow’s Clean Energy Workforce
With an eye on the future, the Budget includes $331 million for workforce training. The Fee-Free TAFE initiative will continue, with an added $122 million and new construction courses.
A $17.1 million expansion of South Metropolitan TAFE’s Munster campus will include renewable energy training facilities—battery labs, automation classrooms, and wind energy education spaces—designed to prepare WA’s workforce for a clean energy future.
