The Queensland Government has announced over $6 million in funding for the second round of the Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Grant (MEEG), aimed at helping manufacturers reduce energy costs and improve efficiency. This initiative will enable eligible manufacturers to install energy-efficient equipment and systems, with grants of up to $50,000 available—double the amount offered in the first round.

Queensland Government Boosts Energy Efficiency for Manufacturers with $6 Million Funding

Driving Down Costs and Emissions

The MEEG program is a key component of the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan, supporting the state’s emissions targets and boosting local manufacturing jobs. In this round, 100% of eligible lighting projects and 75% of other energy-saving projects can be funded, up to a maximum of $50,000.

Past recipients, like AZTEC Security Screens in Cairns, have already seen significant benefits. With over $14,000 in funding from round one, AZTEC replaced an old petrol-gas forklift with a more efficient electric model, cutting energy use, costs, and carbon emissions at their Manunda facility. Similarly, Bradco, a joinery manufacturer, replaced over 300 lights with energy-efficient LEDs, saving more than $19,000 annually on electricity bills.

Applications Open for Round Two

Applications for round two of the MEEG program are open until 30 June 2025 or until the funds are fully allocated. Queensland Minister for Manufacturing, Glenn Butcher, emphasized the importance of this funding, stating, “These measures are not only reducing costs for manufacturers but are also reducing emissions. We have listened to the feedback from round one and expanded support for lighting projects, which deliver immediate benefits to business emissions and energy bills.”

A Call to Action for Manufacturers

Manufacturers are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance their energy efficiency and sustainability. Member for Cairns, Michael Heal, praised the program’s impact, highlighting the significant savings and energy reductions achieved by local businesses like AZTEC Security Screens.

AZTEC Security Screens Director, Cliff Bailey, added, “The Queensland Government funding has been vital in helping our family-run business leverage modern, energy-efficient equipment and grow our sustainability. This next round of the MEEG program means more local manufacturers can follow suit.”
