Future-Focused Energy Investment Unveiled

The Queensland Government’s 2025–26 Budget introduces a game-changing Energy Roadmap, allocating over $5 billion for state-owned energy businesses. The goal? Deliver long-term cost relief while ensuring affordable, reliable, and sustainable power across the state.

Major Pillars of the Energy Roadmap

The five-year roadmap sets the stage for energy transformation through strategic investments across the supply chain:

$2.4 billion total commitment to CopperString by 2028–29 – boosting regional connectivity.

$1.6 billion to support the Electricity Maintenance Guarantee, keeping generators in top shape.

$435 million in 2025–26 for three pumped hydro projects, crucial for storing renewable power.

New Projects Driving the Shift

Queensland’s state-owned generators and partners are also pushing forward several key initiatives:

CS Energy receives $479 million in 2025–26 for the 400MW Brigalow Gas Peaker Project at Kogan Creek.

Stanwell and Quinbrook continue work on the 114MW Lockyer Energy Project.

CleanCo explores adding an open-cycle gas turbine at Swanbank to enhance supply flexibility.

A Budget That Eases Cost of Living

Queensland Treasurer and Minister for Energy, David Janetzki, said the roadmap provides a “credible plan” through 2030, easing energy costs and giving confidence to investors, communities, and consumers alike. The Electricity Maintenance Guarantee is central to this, helping stabilize power prices while improving system reliability.

Empowering Renters with Solar Rebates

To bring renewable energy benefits to more homes, the government’s Supercharged Solar for Renters Plan offers rebates of up to $3,500 for landlords installing solar on rental properties. This $26 million initiative targets around 6,500 households, ensuring tenants directly benefit from solar savings.

Building a Battery-Backed Future

Further budget allocations go toward developing network and utility-scale battery storage, enabling the grid to store excess solar from rooftops and dispatch it when demand peaks—a key enabler for clean energy reliability.
