Australia’s renewable energy sector has smashed multiple records for instantaneous output, signaling a strong shift toward clean energy and away from coal and gas.

Renewables Break Records, Fossil Fuels Plunge to New Lows in Australia

Record-Breaking Renewable Output

On Monday, wind, solar, and rooftop PV hit a new peak of 23,619.5 MW at 13:10 AEST, surpassing the previous record of 23,241.9 MW set just weeks earlier. This marks an impressive 18.3% growth compared to October 2023’s record of 19,197 MW.

The combined output of large-scale solar and rooftop PV also broke records at 19,773 MW, while total renewables, including hydro, reached 24,213.8 MW.

Victoria Leads in Renewable Integration

Victoria recorded a new low for coal and gas reliance at 21.9% of grid share, reflecting a consistent decline from the previous low of 24.7% earlier this year. Unlike past records driven by outages, this milestone stems from the steady growth of renewables.

Driving Australia’s Energy Transition

With a national target of 82% renewables by 2030 and Victoria aiming for 95% by 2035, these achievements highlight the rapid pace of Australia’s energy transition. Geoff Eldridge from GPE NEMLog noted, “The energy transition continues, and with milestones like these, Australia’s electricity future is increasingly renewable.”
